Even though all of these musicians need no introduction:
A veteran jazzman, Garzone has appeared on more than 20 recordings. In addition, Garzone has guested in many situations, touring Europe with Jamaaladeen Tacuma and performing with Danilo Perez, Joe Lovano, Jack DeJohnette, Rachel Z, and John Patitucci among others. Garzone is well-known as a sought-after jazz educator, who, in addition to teaching at Berklee, has taught at the New England Conservatory, Longy School of Music, New York University, and the Manhattan School of Music.
Tenor saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi is an internationally recognized jazz performer, composer, author, and educator.
Bergonzi has performed throughout the world at all the major jazz festivals and jazz venues, with his own ensembles as well as with numerous jazz greats. His music is renowned for its innovation, mastery, and integrity. His discography includes more than 60 recordings, notably Standard Gonz with the Jerry Bergonzi Quartet on the Blue Note label; he also has 60 recorded song titles registered with ASCAP.
Bruce Gertz is known for his superb mastery of the upright bass and was named “Outstanding Bassist” by Boston Music Awards. What some fans don’t know is that he grew up playing electric bass from the age of 14 and still plays (and teaches) the electric quite often. His extraordinary contribution to music education has earned him multiple recognition awards from The International Association of Jazz Educators and the Jazz Education Network. He has been serving as a Professor of Bass at Berklee College of Music since 1976. Additional educator credits include serving on the advisory board of the International Society of Bassists and as an adjudicator at the Clark Terry UNH Jazzer’s Festival.
Bruce Gertz has performed and recorded with such artists as Gary Burton, Jerry Bergonzi, John Abercrombie, Joey Calderazzo, Kenny Werner, Mick Goodrick, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Billy Hart, Bill Frisell, Bob Berg, George Cables, Gil Evans, Tom Harrell, Jon Hendricks, Diane Schuur, Dave Brubeck, George Garzone, Mike Stern, Larry Coryell, Joe Lovano, Cab Calloway, Maynard Ferguson, Count Basie and many others.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Rafael Barata is a self-taught drummer based inNY. He started to playing at the age of 5 and has played and recorded with manyimpressive artists such as Leny Andrade, Emilio Santiago, Rosa Passos, Lisa Ono,Jaques Morelenbaum, Kenny Barron, Milton Nascimento, Edu Lobo, RobertoMenescal, João Donato, Marcos Valle, Ivan Lins and Eliane Elias, who he worked onGrammy award winning album, Made in Brazil. Rafael tours all around the worldwith several projects including Eliane Elias Quartet (Eliane Elias, Marc Johnson andRubens de La Corte), Cello Samba Trio (Jaques Morelenbaum and Lula Galvão) andlately with the multi awarded artist Dianne Reeves.
