Dream Vacation Series!
The first time Seema Tikare went to Greece, she was 19 years old and felt like she had died and gone to heaven:
“Even in the crowded noisy streets of Athens, all you have to do is look up and there you see, like Mt Olympus rising out of the earth, the Acropolis. And the night time view – I still catch my breath when I am reminded of that splendor. I can still picture it all – floating through the Gulf of Corinth, imagining Jason and Argonauts setting out to find the Golden Fleece. Or standing in the beating sun at Delphi, wondering what the oracle would foretell for you. Or walking through the maze at the Palace of Knossos on the island of Crete, imagining the terror people felt of the Minotaur. And of course the absolutely magnificent views from the ferry as you approach the two other iconic islands – Mykonos and Santorini. The cliffs covered in blinding white houses and painted blue roofs. Pink and red and yellow flowers sprouting from every nook and cranny. To counter the heat and sun, the waters of the Mediterranean are a clear, cerulean and cold – a refreshing sanctuary that surrounds you.”
The wines of Greece are also a sort of sanctuary. One can get used to Retsina, the resinated white wine that the locals drink. But the ancient traditions of Greece have inevitably led to a very sophisticated wine culture. Unfortunately, it is relatively rare in the US to find and drink Greek wines, especially the more refined ones. We have found some of the best for you to try though!
In this class, we will explore the delicious wines of this ancient land which is the root of so much western culture.
You can choose to take this class at Commonwealth Wine School or Online through Zoom. Tastings are provided as part of the in-person class, or available for pick up at our school if you select the Online with Tasting Kit registration option.
