Swedenborg Chapel

About

Welcome to Swedenborg Chapel! We are a congregation of the Swedenborgian Church of North America (www.swedenborg.org) and invite you to worship with us on Sundays at 11:00 am.

Our church is grounded in the writings and teachings of Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772) a Swedish pluralistic-Christian theologian, scientist, philosopher, and mystic. Swedenborg declared a new era of spiritual life was entering the world where people would be free to inquire into the mysteries of faith and where worship would permeate all of life, not just in the external forms of the church.

In addition to our Sunday services, we offer a monthly Candlelight Taizé Service of Prayer on the first Tuesdays of the month at 7:30 pm, and a Candlelight Christmas Eve Service at 4:30 pm. We are pleased to open our space to the larger public for weddings, funerals, baptisms and naming ceremonies as well as music events and other gatherings. We also share our space with two other congregations, The Anglican Church of the Epiphany (https://actepiphany.org/index.html) and Highrock Cambridge (https://www.highrockcambridge.org/).

One of the most famous adherents of the Swedenborgian faith was Helen Keller, and in 2018 our community cast a vision to build a new center on our property in Helen’s name. It is our hope that this Helen Keller Center for Spiritual Life will serve as a space of transformation in the Cambridge community, uplifting the worth and dignity of all persons, advancing economic and disability justice, and making space for interfaith spiritual exploration and community.

We look forward to greeting you at the corner of Quincy and Kirkland!
