CAMBRIDGE, MA (January 6th, 2022) – The Hasty Pudding Theatricals, the oldest theatrical organization in the United States, announces JENNIFER GARNER as the recipient of its 2022 Woman of the Year Award. From her performances in Alias13 Going on 30Love Simon, and YES DAY to her role as a philanthropist and entrepreneur, the Pudding is proud to present this honor to an iconic and talented actress who has had such an impactful presence in the world of entertainment.

The Woman of the Year Award is the Hasty Pudding Theatricals’ oldest honor, bestowed annually on performers who have made lasting and impressive contributions to the world of entertainment. Established in 1951, the Woman of the Year Award has been given to many notable and talented entertainers including Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Scarlett Johansson, Anne Hathaway, Kerry Washington, and most recently Viola Davis, the 71st Woman of the Year.

The Woman of the Year festivities will begin at 3:00pm on February 5th, 2022, when Ms. Garner will lead a parade through the streets of Harvard Square. Following the parade, the Hasty Pudding Theatricals will host a celebratory roast for Ms. Garner at 8:00pm, after which she will be presented with her Pudding Pot at Farkas Hall, the Hasty Pudding’s historic home in Harvard Square since 1888. A press conference will follow the presentation at 8:30pm. This year, the Woman of the Year event and Opening Night will coincide and after the press conference, the Hasty Pudding Theatricals will perform HPT 173: Ship Happens!

“We are thrilled to honor Jennifer Garner, who will be the first Woman of the Year to be honored on Opening Night! 13 Going on 30 was my go-to movie growing up, so I can’t wait to meet her,” said co-producer Molly Chiang. “As a talented actress and philanthropist, Jennifer is a role model to all of us at Hasty Pudding Theatricals. It is so wonderful to celebrate her in this exceptional year with the organization’s return to the stage,” added Man and Woman of the Year Coordinator Jacqueline Zoeller.

Award-winning actress Jennifer Garner has enjoyed a successful career at the top of her field in both film and television and has also taken on the role of philanthropist and entrepreneur.

Garner is known for her versatility in a wide range of starring-roles in AliasDallas Buyers ClubLove SimonJuno, and more. She most recently starred in and produced the film YES DAY, based on the children’s book by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, which became Netflix’s biggest Kids & Family film release. She will next be seen in the sci-fi film The Adam Project for Netflix opposite Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana, directed by Shawn Levy. Garner will also produce and star in the Apple TV+ limited series The Last Thing He Ever Told Me, based on the eponymous New York Times bestseller and the Netflix comedy Family Leave.

Garner is a Save the Children Trustee and has worked with the organization for more than a decade. In addition to bringing Save the Children’s early childhood education programs to her home state of West Virginia, she has advocated on Capitol Hill and traveled to Arkansas, California, Kentucky, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and Washington to meet with lawmakers, press and philanthropists to raise awareness and funds for the organization. In 2014, Garner joined the global non-profit’s board of trustees, deepening her commitment to issues affecting children in America and around the world.

In 2017, Garner co-founded the organic food company Once Upon a Farm with Cassandra Curtis, Ari Raz and former Annie’s president John Foraker. Together the visionaries have grown the company with a goal of providing children with the best tasting, most nutritious, and highest quality food utilizing sustainable methods. As a businesswoman, Garner has worked with major brands including Neutrogena and Capital One, and most recently joined the Virtue Labs team to amplify and raise awareness about the unique health and beauty benefits of the company’s premium hair care line.

Please submit forms by Wednesday, Febuary 2nd at 5 PM. Hasty Pudding Theatricals will be following all Harvard University and local COVID-19 guidelines, press will be required to be masked for the entirety of our events.

The show will be performed at Harvard University’s historic Farkas Hall at 12 Holyoke Street from February 6th-March 6th. The company then travels to Hamilton City Hall in Bermuda for performances on March 16th- 18th. All patrons over the age of 12 must show proof of vaccination and a negative COVID test within the past 24 hours for patrons under 12 to attend all performances, masks will also be required.
