The Harvard Square Business Association Summer and Fall Events Announced!

The Harvard Square Business Association is excited to present our summer and fall events calendar. Denise Jillson, executive director of the HSBA said, “We are so pleased to announce this event schedule and we’re especially elated to officially kickoff ‘event season’ with a tribute to Harvard Square’s beloved, inimitable and unparalleled Brother Blue. July 11th
A Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Brother Blue Brattle Plaza

The Harvard Square Business Association, in partnership with the City of Cambridge, Cambridge Arts Council, Councillor E. Denise Simmons and Katie Green is delighted to announce an evening commemorating the life and legacy of legendary storyteller Brother Blue on what would be his 100th birthday. A plaque dedicated to Blue and his wife, Ruth Edmonds Hill, will be unveiled on Brattle Plaza in the heart of Harvard Square. To complement the festivities, the Harvard Square ‘house band’, aptly called The Squares in the Square, will perform and guests will be treated to a complimentary meal and a blue butterfly-emblazoned birthday cake.

July 13th
Harvard Square Pride History Stroll

On July 13th, The Harvard Square Business Association, the Office of Cambridge City Councillor E. Denise Simmons and the Cambridge Museum of History and Culture will be launching the Cambridge Pride History Stroll, a five-part art installation on Harvard Square business storefronts that invites visitors to stroll around the Square and learn about the city’s rich LGBTQ+ history. The exhibit will be displayed throughout the summer.

July 23rd
Celebrate the Shot

PathCheck Foundation, Grendel’s Den Restaurant & Bar and the Harvard Square Business Association present Celebrate the Shot – a day of fun activities, live music and exploration of restaurants and stores in Harvard Square. Vaccinations are working and we are grateful to the scientists and healthcare workers who made it happen! Festivities kick off on Palmer Street at 5pm with a rousing performance by Grooversity followed by food, vendors and a special edition of Park Sounds in Winthrop Park. More information coming soon!

July 30th
7th Annual Salsa Squared
Salsa Sampling and Latin Beats Dance Party

When the sun goes down, things heat up in Harvard Square! Join the Harvard Square Business Association on Brattle Plaza and experience the sights, sounds and tastes of the 7th Annual Salsa Squared Dance Party. Take a dance lesson, sample some complimentary chips and salsa and salsa the night away to infectious Latin beats provided by DJ D. Remembering Elsa Dorfman

The Harvard Square Business Association welcomes you to a special evening honoring the life and artistry of famed Cambridge photographer, Elsa Dorfman. A biographical film with be shown and friends and relatives will reminisce and share stories and anecdotes about Dorfman’s impact on the world of photography and those closest to her. Details to be released.

Party on Palmer

Welcome back, students and visitors! We are having a party and you are invited! To celebrate your return to the Square and our return to a new ‘normal’, we will close Palmer Street and feature live music, a beer garden and other special surprises. Details coming soon.

September 17th
Park Sounds

Hoedown on Holyoke 

The HSBA and the newly opened Smoke Shop BBQ are having a hoedown, y’all! Bring your cowboy hats and boots to Holyoke Street for a country-western party replete with line dancing, cold beer and Andy Husband’s renowned BBQ! Details to be announced at the end of August.
