“I would like, if I may, to take you on a strange journey…”

The Harvard Square Business Association, in partnership with Cambridge Community Development and the Cambridge Arts Council, is excited to announce a free special outdoor film screening and dance party on August 9th at 7pm. The festivities take place on Church Street in front of the former home of the historic Harvard Square Theatre. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and dancing shoes!

Come for fun “…and you shall receive it, in abundance!”

We can’t divulge the name of the film, but here’s a hint!

A newly-engaged couple, Brad and Janet, find themselves in an isolated area after their car breaks down and must seek shelter at the bizarre residence of Dr. Frank-n-Furter. Brad and Janet are soon introduced to the reality of the castle: Frank is a mad scientist who has created a living muscle man by the name of Rocky. It’s a rock musical cult extravaganza!

7pm – “Hot patootie, rest my soul!”
Kick off the night by dancing to the musical stylings of DJ Joey Finnz. Joey Finnz is a multi-talented artist from Somerville that has made a name for himself as an open-format DJ, musician, producer and sound engineer. Joey has brought his electrifying performances to notable events and venues such as Harvard Square’s MayFair, Illuminated Halloween Block Party and Taste of Chocolate Festival.

9pm – “Let’s do the time warp again!”
Film screening and complimentary popcorn!

“I see you shiver with antici……pation!” This cult fan favorite was shown every Saturday evening at midnight at the Harvard Square Theatre starting in 1984 and continued until the theatre closed in 2012. That’s roughly 1500 screenings. Talk about a time warp!

“And remember, it’s just a party, Janet.”

Food Drive

When coming to the movie screening, please consider bringing a food donation to the Fridge in the Square. This community refrigerator and pantry, managed by the Harvard Square Business Association, community volunteers and hosted by First Parish, is located by the entrance to the church at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Church Street (just steps from where the event is held). People are encouraged to take what they need and leave what they can.

Recommended items to donate include boxed cereal, crackers, cookies, self-opening canned fruit, tuna and vegetables, drink boxes, peanut butter and bottled water. Many thanks, in advance, for your generosity!
