Harvard Lampoon to Honor Bruins Players in Harvard Square!

On Sunday, October 16th, The Harvard Lampoon, Harvard’s noted comedy magazine, will present the Stanley Cup Champion Bruins players with the Harvard Lampoon “Best Sports Team Ever” award, in a public ceremony in Harvard Square.

This fun-filled, light-hearted, Bruins-themed, street festival will commence at 1:00 p.m. with local musical favorites. Oldjack will kick-off the party on a black & gold festooned stage (located in front of the newly re-opened Bob Slate’s Stationer at 30 Brattle Street) followed by Susan Cattaneo at 2:00 p.m. and the Self Proclaimed Rockstars at 3:00 p.m.

Hot, spicy, sweet and savory food tents will be set up by Boloco, Russell House Tavern, Bertucci’s, Zinneken’s Waffles, Sweet Cupcakes, Redbones BBQ and Casablanca. Fans are invited to come for lunch, enjoy the entertainment and await the arrival of New England’s beloved men-of-ice.  SupahFans Streetwear will be on hand selling unique Boston hockey apparel & officially licensed Bruins novelties.

The Bruins players will depart from the Lampoon Castle in Super Duck Tour Trolleys. The Bruins-toting trolleys will form a rolling parade, led by the Harvard University Band (the official marching band of Harvard) and escorted by Cambridge Police and Cambridge Fire personnel.   The parade is expected to arrive at the stage around 4:15 p.m. where the Bruins players will publically accept the award. The awards program is sure to include side-splitting antics, entertaining speeches and lots of jest.

Founded in 1876, the Harvard Lampoon is the world’s oldest continually published humor magazine. The Lampoon has many accomplished alumni, including Conan O’Brien, B.J. Novak, John Updike, George Plimpton, and William Randolph Hearst and is responsible for the creation of the National Lampoon. Most recently, the Lampoon has produced the best-selling Twilight parody Nightlight and a parody of Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games titled The Hunger Pains (on sale February 2012).
This family-friendly event is free and open to the public and will include face painting and balloon animal activities for children.
