Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre Benefit for Earthquake Relief

This FREE community event will raise funds for earthquake relief in Haiti as part of Dance for World Community. The event will feature Boston and Cambridge youth dance group performances followed by a Community Dance Party where donations will be collected at the door and throughout the evening. UpStairs on the Square Hosts Day-Long Fundraiser for Earthquake Victims in Haiti.

Monday, January 25th – Community Breakfast, Prix Fixe Lunch, Dinners
UpStairs on the Square will host a day-long fundraiser to support the relief efforts for the earthquake-devastated population of Haiti. All monies collected will be sent to Partners In Health (www.pih.org), an organization to which UpStairs has had for many years very close ties through founders Paul Farmer and Ophelia Dahl; PIH is at the forefront of relief efforts in Port-au-Prince and beyond. Guests will be able to make donations all through the day by credit card, check or cash. Raffle tickets for the evening raffle (at $10 per ticket) available for purchase throughout the day, with a drawing at the evening gathering.

I. Complimentary Community Breakfast for Harvard Square 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
UpStairs will open the doors of the first floor Monday Club for a community-wide, welcoming continental breakfast, featuring our pastry staff’s famous cinnamon sticky buns, blueberry muffins and coffee cake, along with coffee and tea. Come before work, make a donation, buy a raffle ticket, chat with us, and let us warm your heart with a warm cup of joe and a sweet bite—our way to thank our neighbors for whatever help they can give. Raffle tickets for our evening raffle (at $10 per ticket) available for purchase during the breakfast.

II. Hope for Haiti Lunch – Prix Fixe Lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Our resourceful and generous kitchen staff will be presenting a $30 prix fixe three-course lunch, from which $10 will be donated to Partners In Health Earthquake Relief Fund. Socially-conscious eating tastes better, especially at lunch. Make a reservation—this will sell out. And while you’re here, buy a raffle ticket and make a donation.

III. Family Meal: A Satisfying Evening of Good Food & Conviviality for Haitian Earthquake Relief – 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

As an offering from our family to the families of Port-au-Prince, we will open our restaurant for a warm and welcoming evening that will feature Susan Regis’ family-meal style, Haitian-influenced food. The small plates/passed hors d’oeuvre are compliments of UpStairs on the Square. Cash bar will be available. Musical entertainment will keep us humming.
Suggested minimum donation: $25 for admission
Raffle: (with drawing at 8:30) features prizes from all of our Harvard Square (and beyond) neighbors. Raffle tickets are $10 and gets one free raffle ticket and one complimentary bar beverage.
All donations: can be made by credit card, cash or check, but we encourage cash and check donations for what will be a large gathering. Valet parking is available daily at the corner beginning at 5 pm.. Discounted parking at three nearby lots.

Matt Smith, Passim Club Manager, will host a Haitian Relief Benefit Concert on Tuesday, February 9th at 7 PM. Featuring Mark Erelli, Hanneke Cassel, Chris O’Brien and Margaret Glaspy – and many more artists to follow. Donations from ticket prices and raffle prizes will be collected at the event. In an effort to help a land of disaster through an industry of beauty, Plan B Cut and Color Boutique in Cambridge will match 20 percent of all pledges for Haiti made by the salon’s Facebook Fans. Fans can make pledges through January 23. The creative force behind Plan B’s important promotional concept, owner Rick Fogarty hopes to make a difference. “We need to help support these beautiful people in the hour of their most desperate need,” says Fogarty. “Just post the amount of your pledge, and I’ll cut a check next Saturday. I began the process with a pledge of $250.”

The earthquake that has caused such unimaginable misery to our neighbor Haiti has a personal dimension for us at Rialto. The Charles Hotel, our home, has over 40 Haitian associates, coworkers with whom we interact daily, many of whom have lost family members and friends in this disaster.
