Everyone Loves Latkes

Over 800 people enjoyed hot and delicious latkes that were sampled between 1:30 – 2:30 on Brattle Plaza, in front of Hidden Sweets (25 Brattle Street), while Joe Kessler and his Klezmer band, Klezwoods serenaded the crowd with traditional songs. Harvard Square’s Latkes were yummy, diverse in shape, size, and texture and were accompanied by Chef John Schall’s (FiRE + iCE) homemade apple sauce, (while it lasted) along with fresh sour cream and creative restaurant-made condiments! Some latkes were traditional, and others had an interesting ethnic spin. This year, HSBA members, Zinneken’s Waffles, FiRE + iCE, The Hong Kong, the red house, and Otto Pizza graciously donated hundreds of latkes. In keeping with tradition, fresh jelly donuts were generously donated by Dunkin Donuts and…not so traditional, our friends at JP Licks served Kugle-flavored ice cream!

HSBA Executive Director, Denise Jillson said “We were delighted to once again celebrate Hanukkah in the heart of the Square. We made some new friends and saw many old ones who come back each year for this fun and unique celebration.”
