Though his improvisational style clashed with the more traditional methods of Judy Garland and Burt Lancaster, John Cassavetes elicited a different kind of performance from both stars. Though Cassavetes was fired during editing by producer Stanley Kramer, his touch remains on this emotional film about a school for developmentally and emotionally challenged children. Brattle debut!
