In a special noon hour presentation, The Afghanistan Freeharmonic Orchestra, with Boston Opera & Zarzuela, presents a preview of their first in-person concert, Universal Love, to be premiered on Friday evening at First Church in Cambridge. Several Longy students comprise the AFO, including current Longy student and Afghan musician Qudrat Wasefi, who is a founding member and regularly composes works for the AFO.
Universal Love is a concert in solidarity with women across the universe enduring oppression and abuse, such as those living in Afghanistan. Boston Opera & Zarzuela, and The Afghanistan Freeharmonic Orchestra come together to lift their voices in support of all women who cannot exercise their basic human rights. The program includes lyric compositions by western female composers as well as compositions and arrangements by Afghan composers, featuring over ten international musicians on stage.
