We invite you to walk down Massachusetts Avenue near the Hong Kong and enjoy the red & gold silk lanterns bedecking our lampposts. We welcome you to join us in our annual Chinese New Year Lion Dance procession through Harvard Square and at our cultural “Open House” at the iconic Kong.
The Hong Kong was founded 56 years ago by Sen (Jimmy) Lee and Buoy (Mary) Lee. We commemorate his memory and celebrate Chinese New Year in Harvard Square with Buoy (Mary) and the Lee family. The Hong Kong has long-served as rite of passage for students and visitors. It is a beacon and beloved symbol of the diverse culture found in Harvard Square. The Lee family continues their tradition of community celebration by welcoming the public into their restaurant on Sunday, February 20th for a cultural Open House.
The festivities, which are free and open to the public, begin with a Lion Dance around the lantern-clad oak tree in Winthrop Park (located at the corner of JFK and Mount Auburn Streets) and continue with a sidewalk procession to the Hong Kong where complimentary appetizers and cultural activities for families and children will abound.
