A Chinese New Year Celebration in Harvard Square

Drive down Massachusetts Avenue and enjoy the gorgeous red & gold silk lanterns hanging from our wrought iron lampposts in front of the HONG KONG as we prepare for a grand celebration!

Reasons to Celebrate:

It is the year of the RAT! Those born in rat years tend to be leaders, pioneers, and conquerors. They are charming, passionate, charismatic, practical and hardworking. Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Affleck, Samuel L. Jackson, William Shakespeare, and Mozart were all born in the year of the rat.

It is the 54th Anniversary of the Hong Kong in Harvard Square! We celebrate this momentous occasion with several generations of the Lee Family. The Hong Kong has served as an icon at the entrance of Harvard Square for scores of students and visitors. It is a beacon and an embodiment of the excitement one finds upon entering Harvard Square. The Lee’s have always been great partners of Harvard Square, Cambridge, and the Community and they have invited us to celebrate by hosting an “open house” outside and inside their restaurant on Sunday, February 10th.

This is our Second Annual “Chinese New Year Celebration!” Join us for a Lion Dance around the ancient oak tree in Winthrop Park (JFK Street in front of UpStairs & Peets) and then get in line for our Lion Dance Parade over to the Hong Kong. Lion Dance Parade is sponsored by the Harvard Square Business Association. Please bring your family and friends and even the family RAT!

2:00 p.m. Lion Dance Parade Assembles in Winthrop Park.
2:15 – 2:30: Lion Dance Parades to the Hong Kong along JFK to Mass Ave.
