JULY SERVICE TIME: 9AM EVERY SUNDAY

Welcome to Christ Church Cambridge or, more correctly, welcome to our website. Long before we were known as "cccambridge.org," we were organized as a community of worship and faith that survived good times and bad times, uprising and depression, civil unrest and community spirit.

Our congregation owes its rich history and tradition to people like George and Martha Washington, who once saved the church from decay and neglect, to Teddy Roosevelt, who taught Sunday School here while studying at Harvard, and a collection of Cabots, Lodges, and other luminaries whose names appear in various parts of our national landscape. But the real story of Christ Church rests not so much on these as on countless parishioners, names now forgotten, who gave of themselves to make this church a house of welcome and challenge to generations of citizens of Cambridge, some for the long term, some just passing through. They help us understand that each person who comes here brings a particular gift, unique to time and circumstances, that over time has woven a fabric that honors tradition while embracing the future.

Seventeen rectors have served Christ Church in its 247-year history, but thousands of dedicated men and women have served as lay-leaders in a chain that brings us to the present. And every link in that chain has served with an eye toward seeking God's will, God's justice and love, God's blessing not just for those within, but for all whose lives we touch.

Today we are experiencing something of an awakening within these old walls that includes an energetic music program, new programs of Christian Education for both children and adults, new outreach to members of the college community in which we live, new focus on welcoming others to join us, and a continued interest in and commitment to issues of peace, justice, and service to the outside world.

We've been right here on Garden Street, in this same building, for all these years, but that doesn't mean that life here is stale, stagnant, or even predictable. We are harbingers of God's good news that "things which were cast down are being raised up and things which had grown old are being made new and all things are being brought to their perfection by him through whom all things were made." We invite you to come and be a part of our life as we journey in God and toward God.

Welcome to historic Christ Church Cambridge, where everything is the same, yet always changing.

The Rev. Joseph O. Robinson
