Harvard Square Luminary, Bob Hurlbut, passed away

Robert S. Hurlbut Jr., 88, died peacefully on December 22, 2025, from complications of heart disease, surrounded by his family. Bob was an educator, community activist, and lifelong supporter of his beloved hometown of Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Good Morning HSBA Members and Friends, On Sunday, December 21st, Cambridge police were called to Cardullo’s after staff reported that an impaired man was being belligerent and refusing to leave the store.

Harvard Square is glowing with holiday spirit. As the days grow shorter, the sights and sounds of winter fill the streets. The Square radiates warmth and welcoming lights and will continue to do so throughout the entire winter season.

Help Keep “The Fridge in the Square” Full — So Our Neighbors Don’t Go Hungry In Harvard Square, there’s a simple idea that works: a community fridge and pantry outside First Parish Church where anyone can take what they need—no questions asked. We call it The Fridge in the Square.
