Harvard Go Bragh!  Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day Weekend
 in Harvard Square
March 15th – 17th, 2019
The Harvard Square Business Association welcomes you to Harvard Square to celebrate St. Patrick’s Weekend!  Enjoy the greenest of the holidays with fresh takes on traditional Irish dishes, theatre, concerts and more!  On March 17th, we’re all Irish!
American Repertory Theater
On the Korean island of Man-Jae, three elderly haenyeos—sea women—spend their dying days diving into the ocean to harvest seafood. They have no heirs to their millennia-old way of life. Across the globe on the island of Manhattan, a Korean-Canadian playwright, twice an immigrant, spends her days wrestling with the expectation that she write “authentic” stories about her identity. But what, exactly, is her identity? And how can she write about it without selling her own skin?
This daring new play by Celine Song (Amazon’s “The Wheel of Time,” Public Theater’s 2016/17 Emerging Writers Group) journeys beneath the waves under the direction of Sammi Cannold (Violet at A.R.T., Forbes 30 Under 30) and features Wai Ching Ho (Madame Gao from the Marvel TV universe), Emily Kuroda (“Gilmore Girls”), Jiehae Park (the author of peerless, recently produced at Boston’s Company One Theatre), and Jo Yang (“The Affair”).

Brattle Theatre
Sunday, March 17th -  Chlotrudis Awards
The first round of guests to be announced includes Marion Bridge director Wiebke von Carolsfeld, film composer Lesley Barber (Manchester by the Sea), and director/actor/producer Don McKellar (Sensitive Skin, Twitch City)! Follow the Chlotrudis Awards Facebook Event for additional updates.
For 25 years, the Boston-based Chlotrudis Society for Independent Film has been handing out awards to the most deserving indies released in Boston. Since 1996 when The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert took home top honors, these idiosyncratic cinephiles have been highlighting films outside the mainstream – often eschewing the more popular picks of the Oscars. This year, the most nominated films are Madeline’s Madeline with 8 nods and Luca Guadagino’s Suspiria with 6. They often welcome special guests at their awards ceremony and plans are currently brewing for this special anniversary show. Past guests have included Ellen Page, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Kerry Washington, Hal Hartley, Geneviève Bujold, and more!

Sarah Blacker & New England Groove Association
March 16th, 7pm
With roots in the folk, rock, jam-band and funk scenes, Sarah Blacker and NE Groove Association fuse their vibrant musical worlds together to create an original, soulful sound.
The project, which often features special guests, is comprised of award-winning / internationally touring singer/songwriters/multi-instrumentalists, Sarah Blacker, Aaron Z. Katz, and Phil Selesnick on keyboards.
Aaron Katz with over 20 years of national and international touring, is the singer/songwriter/producer/drummer from the successful jam-band, Percy Hill. Percy Hill won the Jammy Award for ‘Album of the Year’ in 2000 and continues sell-out rooms on the jam club and festival scene. The band recently reunited after an 8-year hiatus, to sold-out shows at Port City Music Hall in Portland, ME and The Paradise, Boston.
Sarah Blacker was named ‘Female Performer of the Year’ in the 2013 New England Music Awards and has built a devoted following both nationally and internationally via extensive touring, passionate singing and songwriting, and belief in the power of music. Her motto, #songssavelives speaks to her work as a Music Therapist, and her coming up on the jam-band concerts and festivals scene. She feels enthusiastic about re-connecting/moving with this fun-loving group of people, now as an accomplished musician and performer.
The trio just returned from JamCruise 15 (http://www.JamCruise.com) during which they performed at several locations and stages throughout the floating festival.

T.S. Monk
March 16th - 8pm
After earning a reputation in school as a rabble-rouser, and graduating, the young Monk joined his father’s trio and toured with his dad until the elder Monk’s retirement in 1975. T. S. then launched into the music that had captivated him and his generation, R&B. He first toured with a group called Natural Essence and afterward, with his sister Barbara, formed his own band with which he had hits on two recordings, House Of Music and More Of The Good Life, where he played drums, arranged, and sang.
T. S. received the New York Jazz Awards First Annual “Recording of the Year” and ‘Downbeat’s’ prestigious 63rd Reader’s Poll Award for Monk On Monk, the “80th Anniversary Birthday Tribute to Thelonious Sphere Monk” featuring twenty guest artists including Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Arturo Sandoval, Dianne Reeves, Nnenna Freelon, Howard Johnson, among others perform on the recording. Critics and the public lauded T. S. Monk as his father’s true musical heir, as andleader, and performer.
In 1992, Thelonious formed his jazz sextet and received raves from the moment they hit the stage and the studio. One of the most unique groups on the circuit, the T. S. Monk Sextet’s cohesive and driving style has been heard at the JVC Jazz at the Bowl festival, Sun Valley Center, Lied Center for the Performing Arts, and many of the legendary jazz clubs.
