Gallery Talk: Happy Birthday, Walter Gropius! at Harvard Art Museum
Gallery Talk: Happy Birthday, Walter Gropius!
n honor of Gropius’s 136th birthday (on May 18), learn more about his fascinating life and work in this special talk in the galleries of The Bauhaus and Harvard (February 8–July 28, 2019) exhibition. Melissa Venator, the Stefan Engelhorn Curatorial Fellow in the Busch-Reisinger Museum, will give this gallery talk.
Walter Gropius’s accomplishments as a modernist architect were eclipsed only by his visionary contributions to art education. After founding the Bauhaus school of art, architecture, and design in 1919 in Weimar, Germany, he went on to chair Harvard’s Department of Architecture and was a driving force behind the creation of the Busch-Reisinger Museum’s Bauhaus collection.
Free with museums admission. Gallery talks are limited to 15 people and tickets are required. Ten minutes before each talk, tickets will become available at the admissions desk.
Please meet in the Calderwood Courtyard, in front of the digital screens between the shop and the admissions desk. Museums staff will be on hand to collect tickets.
