CAMBRIDGE LOCAL FIRST CELEBRATES 617 DAY

CAMBRIDGE LOCAL FIRST CELEBRATES 617 DAY WITH A SMALL BUSINESS SUMMIT AND COMMUNITY BLOCK PARTY

Cambridge Local First (CLF) is declaring “617 Day” on June 17th an unofficial holiday to celebrate small businesses in the city and will be hosting two events to commemorate the day.

The inaugural 617 Day Small Business Summit will take place at The Comedy Studio, located at 5 JFK Street, from 8:30 AM to 12:15 PM. Attendees will enjoy a networking breakfast catered by local restaurant SoBol, followed by three insightful panel discussions addressing vital topics for the small business community. Esteemed speakers include Betty Francisco from the Boston Impact Initiative, Theresa Ng from MassDevelopment, and Alexandria Eberhardt of the Massachusetts LGBT Chamber of Commerce. Registration for this event is free but required.

The festivities continue with the 617 Day Block Party, kicking off at 5 PM along Winthrop Street, featuring a music stage in Winthrop Park. Headlining this year’s event is ToriTori, the 2023 Boston Music Awards R&B Artist of the Year, along with performances by FM Collective and The Sunday Slippers. Local small business owners will host a variety of games and activities, complemented by an outdoor beer garden and a wine truck.

“CLF wanted to establish an annual event that not only reminded people to shop local, but would bring local independent business owners together to connect and celebrate,” said CLF Board Chair, Kari Kuelzer. “June 17th isn’t just a clever branding idea, we choose the date because it falls during a special time in Cambridge – after graduation and before summer school starts – when it feels distinctly local, almost like we have the whole place to ourselves for a few warm, early summer days.”
