Bob Slate Stationer to Celebrate Reopening November 17th

Harvard Square institution that closed in March is once again ready to serve customers

Bob Slate Stationer announced today that it will celebrate the reopening of its store at a new location in Harvard Square on November 17th.  Opening under new ownership, this celebration comes seven months after Mallory and Justin Slate retired, shuttering the 3 previous locations.

A Harvard Square institution for 78 years, the stationery, office and art supply store was founded by  Mallory and Justin Slate's father, Bob. The new owner, Laura E. Donohue has worked closely with the Slate family to bring a forward-thinking vision to the store while retaining the customer focus and knowledgeable service that has been the hallmark of the Slate franchise. The new location, 30 Brattle Street, is the previous location of a Bob Slate store in the 1980's.

"I am thrilled to become the steward of the Bob Slate franchise in Harvard Square. In a world of big box stores and mega office suppliers, there is still a place for independent, small business owners who can provide a personalized experience and high-end specialty products that support the neighborhood and local economy," said Laura Donohue, the new owner of Bob Slate Stationer. "With guidance from the Slate brothers, I hope to continue their legacy of providing the tried and true products that our customers rely on year after year, while updating our inventory to include new items that address evolving customer needs."

Commenting on the new owner and reopening of the store, Denise Jillson, executive director of the Harvard Square Business Association said, "With her ties to Harvard and the city of Cambridge, Laura Donohue is the perfect person to take over for the Slate family. We look forward to having her become part of the vibrant business community that makes Harvard Square such a unique destination."
A reopening celebration will take place on Thursday, November 17, 2011 and will include remarks from the Honorable Mayor of Cambridge, David Maher.
