    Winter Green Carnival in Harvard Square – January 15th – February 15th 2009.

    Please join us for an exhilarating Winter Celebration in appreciation of the full spectrum of Mother Nature!  The people of Harvard Square, a particularly hearty bunch of New Englanders, enjoy going outdoors to exercise our community spirit every chance we get.  The people of Harvard Square engage in outdoor celebration despite the weather – and because of the weather!

    A few highlights of the 2009 Winter Carnival:

    January 17th - January 19th - Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Events
    January 20th – Inaugural Events throughout Harvard Square
    January 23rd - Bluegrass Grows on Winter Green at Club Passim
    January 24th – Hot Chocolate Tasting
    January 30th – Go Green Walk/Ride Days Breakfast
    January 31st – Chili Cook-off & Winter Volleyball Tournament
    February 5th – Hasty  Pudding Woman of the Year Parade
    February 8th – Chinese New Year
    February 13th-15th – Valentine’s Events  


    WINTER GREEN CARNIVAL EVENTS!

    -Go Green Walk/Ride Days Breakfast - Friday, January 30th - 7:00 am - 9:00 am. Indoors/Outdoors at Holyoke Center and Forbes Plaza, 1350 Massachusetts Avenue.

    Join us for a Free Breakfast sponsored by the Harvard Square Business Association to Celebrate the Green Streets Initiative "Walk/Ride Days." Join us as Mayor Denise Simmons kicks off her "9 in '09" Mayor's Walk/Ride Day Challenge.

    Walk/Ride days are the last Friday of the month where people Wear Green (any green article of clothing) and Go Green (walk, ride your bike, take public transportation or ride share to Harvard Square) and receive rewards from the local businesses. This Friday Wear Green and Go Green and enjoy a SPECIAL FREE COMMUNITY OUTDOOR BREAKFAST CELEBRATION in Harvard Square.

    Generous donations of breakfast items include hot chocolate, hot oatmeal, breakfast burritos, and fresh baked pastries and preserves from local Harvard Square Restaurants; Boloco, Dunkin Donuts, Finale Desserterie and Bakery, JP Licks, Henrietta’s Table, Au Bon Pain and Crema Café.

    There will be special raffles and gifts for Walk/Ride Day participants, courtesy of the Harvard Square Business Association, MassBike, Green Streets, The Sustainability Office of Harvard Real Estate and others. Artist George Lynde is also preparing a special game about the Bike Racks of Cambridge.

    - New School of Music brings you New Lullabies & Exotic Dances, with Aaron Larget-Caplan on Guitar.

    Guitar + Composers + Lullabies = New Lullaby Project, which includes: Music of Latin America (Barrios & Lauro), Spain (Rodrigo), England (Eastwood) & New Lullabies commissioned by Aaron Larget-Caplan for the New Lullaby Project. Featuring Four World Premieres from composers Scott Wheeler, Eric Schwartz, Nolan Stolz and Jacob Mashak.
