Cambridge, MA –Longfellow House-Washington’s Headquarters National Historic Site is pleased to announce a series of specially-focused house tours each Friday evening of September at 6:30 p.m. Space is extremely limited for each tour. Therefore, reservations must be made by calling the site at (617) 876-4491. The scheduled programs are as follows:

  • 9/1: Regimental Reflections: The Longfellow’s Experience on Lincoln’s Front Line
  • 9/8: Myth-Master of Castle Craigie
  • 9/15: The Boss on Brattle Street: George Washington’s Development as a Leader in Cambridge
  • 9/22: Footsteps thro’ Heaven & Hell: Henry & Fanny Longfellows’ Belief in Life After Death
  • 9/29: Overlooked Artifacts: The Curator’s Tour


Longfellow House–Washington’s Headquarters National Historic Site was home to America’s most popular 19th century poet and scholar, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and his family from 1837-1950. The historic 1759 colonial mansion was also General George Washington’s first major headquarters during the American Revolution. The house and its collections were a gift to the nation from Longfellow’s descendants in 1972. Its extensive collections and grounds represent more than 250 years of America’s history and literature.
