11am – 4pm

The Harvard Square Business Association in partnership with The Charles Hotel, is pleased to announce a Red Cross Blood Drive to benefit victims of the recent slate of Hurricanes in the Caribbean and the south coast.  The blood drive will held in the Conference Room – Pavilion at the Charles Hotel, One Bennett Street in Cambridge from 11am – 4pm.  In addition, we will be holding a raffle to assist The Diaper Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps provide diaper assistance and other services for Houston area children who are still in great need.

Please call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit and enter ‘Harvard Business’ to schedule an appointment.

Driving to the Charles Hotel?  The Charles Square Garage, located in the hotel at One Bennett Street, is offering free 2 hour parking for those donating blood.  Parking passes will be available inside the Pavilion when you check in.

Streamline your donation experience and save up to 15 minutes by visiting to complete your pre-donation reading and health history questions on the day of your appointment.

The HSBA is holding a raffle to benefit The Diaper Foundation of Houston.  Through awareness, education and material aid to young mothers, they aim to keep every child clean, dry, and healthy - one diaper at a time.  Buy a $10 raffle ticket at the blood drive and be entered to win a “Good Things Come in Harvard Square” gift basket valued at over $1000.

Items generously donated by Harvard Square businesses include:
(2) tickets to concert of your choice at The Sinclair, (4) tickets to Christmas Revels, (2) tickets to a show of your choice at the Huntington Theatre courtesy of Panorama Magazine, $200 gift certificate to Les Sablons, $50 gift certificate to Night Market, $50 gift certificate to Forty Winks, sunglasses from SEE Inc., (2) Revels CDs, a selection of games and books from Black Ink, $20 gift card and gifts from JP Licks and a selection of gifts from Capital One Café.

Three essentials for a good donation experience:  Hydrate!  Iron!  Positive ID!

Begin hydrating 3 days before your donation.  Doing so will speed up the donation process, make your veins more accessible and you’ll bounce back faster!

Iron is an essential part of the protein that gives blood its red color and carries oxygen to all the cells (hemoglobin).  It is also part of myoglobin, which stores oxygen in the muscles.  Iron is important for energy production!  Iron-rich foods include:  red meat, fish, poultry or liver, iron-fortified cereals, raisins and prunes.  Eating foods that are high in Vitamin C along with iron-rich foods can increase iron’s absorption.  For example, drink orange juice along with your iron-rich foods!
