Furnished Quarters Helps to Furnish Hope

Harvard Square Business Association (HSBA) member Furnished Quarters provided a very welcome gift to fellow HSBA member Furnishing Hope of Massachusetts, Inc.

Furnished Quarters is the largest independently owned and operated supplier of global temporary housing, offering over 100,000 fully furnished apartments in more than 800 cities around the world. When Furnished Quarters was refreshing apartments in the Boston area, it looked to find a good home for the furniture it was replacing, rather than simply discarding it, and reached out to Furnishing Hope.

Furnishing Hope, a non-profit based in Harvard Square, provides furniture and home goods to families transitioning from homeless and domestic violence shelters. Furnishing Hope collects and refurbishes furniture, as well as gently-used home goods, and provides them free of charge to families identified by their social service agency partners, which include Cambridge Family & Children's Service and Transition House, a Cambridge domestic violence shelter, among others.

Said Furnishing Hope Executive Director Suzy Palitz, “We were thrilled to receive a moving truck's worth of gently used furniture, including sofas, beds, dressers, night stands and TV stands. This was truly a wonderful holiday gift. The families we work with are typically starting over with next to nothing, and the items that Furnished Quarters donated are of excellent quality and very practical. They will be making their way into their new homes over the course of the coming months. We are delighted that our membership in the Harvard Square Business Association has connected us with Furnished Quarters, and we hope to build relationships with other HSBA members.”

Denise Jillson, executive director of the HSBA said, "There are so many benefits of membership in the HSBA, but one that we pride ourselves on is our ability to connect businesses and the people within those businesses to each other.  It is particularly gratifying when our corporate and non-profit members come together as Furnishing Hope and Furnished Quarters have.  This newly-forged partnership will benefit many needy families and children; it is especially heartwarming".

Furnishing Hope would like to offer a special thanks to Furnished Quarters EVP and General Manager, Annette Clement, for initiating this gift, and to Director of Operations, Emily Hay, and Warehouse Manager, Greg Olson, for helping to organize and facilitate this donation.

Furnishing Hope welcomes other opportunities to partner with Harvard Square Business Association members. If you are a local business and would like to explore partnership possibilities, please contact Suzy Palitz at info@furnishinghopema.org.
