Brattle Theatre
Haunted House of Pancakes - Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 7:00 PM    Presented by The International Pancake Film Festival  Tickets $5. No Brattle Passes.  Since 2007, the International Pancake Film Festival has showcased short films and videos with a good portion of their length dedicated to the humble flapjack (johnnycake, hotcake, blintz, crepe, griddlecake, ploye…) This year marks our fifth edition, and our first spooktacular Halloween celebration: The I.P.F.F.’s Haunted House of Pancakes. Admission includes a complimentary stack of pancakes! Sweet, syrupy fun will certainly be had by all.

Cabin in the Woods also plays Halloween Night! - Plays Tuesday, October 30 & Wednesday, October 31 at 10:00 PM  Hands down one of our favorite horror films of the year, this ingenious deconstruction of the slasher film puts Scream to shame. The less said, the better, but we’ll tell you that CABIN begins like any other slasher film, with a cadre of good looking college students heading to an isolated cabin for a goodtimes weekend – but it quickly, and very successfully, goes wildly off the rails. If you missed it’s initial run, don’t miss this opportunity to catch up with it. And if you already saw it, come see it again to take in every insane detail!

Nosferatu – Wednesday, October 31st at 7:00pm, doors at 6:30pm  Live Score by the Andrew Alden Ensemble!  Tickets $15 General Public/$12 Students, Seniors, Brattle Members
One of the definitive vampire films, Murnau’s NOSFERATU is about as far from the sexy, sympathetic bloodsuckers of Twilight and True Blood as you can get… and we like it that way. Max Schreck plays the creature of the night in this thinly veiled adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Cambridge Historical Tours
Cambridge Historical Tours proudly presents their Spooky Pub Crawl , which will run on October 23rd and October 30th.  The Harvard Square Pub Crawl gets spooky for Halloween! The normal Pub Crawl, running every Tuesday at 5:30PM, gives you 5 Drinks, 5 Appetizers, and 5 Histories of 5 of the best bars and restaurants in Cambridge. For only $50, the value is already terrifyingly good. A charming host in Historical Clothing will toast you around the Square, regaling you with the most charming and lascivious cheers possible. For October 23rd and 30th ONLY, you will also get the added bonus of a few good ghost stories, and a slightly more ghoulish guide. To make reservations and payment, please email info@cambridgehistoricaltours.org, and come get tipsy with a ghost!

Ask the citizens of Cambridge about ghosts and hauntings and you’ll probably get a blank look or even a scoff of derision; Cantabrigians have little time to waste on frivolity…unless you’re in Harvard Square. The locals in Harvard know that behind every Crimson corner lies a dark secret. Stories of gruesome murders, dismemberments and other things that go bump in the night permeate the streets and campus. Harvard professors have been known to explore the shadowy recesses of the yard, some even after death.  Our Harvard ghost tours pass through the Harvard University campus and visit the Cambridge Burying Yard, with lots of ghost stories and Harvard history along the way. Our guides are professional storytellers who love to put a chill in your bones. Tours on October 26 – 28 at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $15/$10 (Adults/Child)
Cambridge Historical Tours, Tours gather in front of the Harvard Coop, directly across from the Harvard Square T. Your guide will be hard to miss! (617)520-4030, cambridgehistoricaltours.org

Harvard Museum of Natural History
Cockroaches Exhibit   http://www.hmnh.harvard.edu/exhibits/index.php#arthropods
These adaptable arthropods are some of the oldest land-living animals on Earth.  They thrived in lush coal forests 300 million years ago, survived multiple mass extinctions, and today encompass 4,500 species, including some of the most beautiful and colorful insects on the planet.  Nurturing parents, these insects often carry and protect their young, and some species even feed them with a kind of “milk” made from their own bodies!   Who are they?  The answer may surprise you. They’re cockroaches!   You've already heard the negative propaganda. Now come learn the real and amazing truth about these much maligned and misunderstood insects in a new mini-exhibit.
The exhibit is the latest installment in the museum's Exploring Diversity series in the exhibition Arthropods: Creatures that Rule. It will be on display through September 2013.

Jose Mateo’s Ballet Theatre
Mysterious Arrangements:  Fridays and  Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 4pm from October 5th – 28th; Special Thursday night performance, October 25th, at 8pm.  "Mysterious arrangements" refers to the intriguing, ever-changing choreographic positionings of the performers in Mateo's ballets as much as to the complex relationships that the dancers' physical interactions describe. The intentional ambiguity in these relationships always engages --even perplexes -- and leaves the audience wanting to know more.
Tickets:  $40

This marks the first in hopefully many Spook-tacular Teas to come, where we offer children the respite of high afternoon tea, while putting our own ghoulish spin on it—with marshmallow ghosts and black cat cookies. Children and parents alike are encouraged to come dressed up and ready for a frightful, yet delightful event.

Best costume wins big.  Lino is concocting some very potent but specially priced magic brews for the bar, and our kitchen is coming up with a special $40 prix fixe menu all night long—heavy on the pumpkins and apples.
