On July 3, 1999, Mark Sandman, the charismatic frontman of the alternative band Morphine, sadly passed away while performing at a festival in Italy. His death left a huge, unmendable hole in the Boston music scene and a slew of fans around the world wondering what could have been had he stayed with us just a little longer. Now, filmmakers Robert Bralver and David Ferino have created an engaging documentary about this immensely creative – and immensely private – person. Featuring interviews with other altmusic stars as well as Sandman’s former bandmates, friends and family, CURE FOR PAIN reveals an intense, driven individual who kept the truth about his inner demons away from everyone – choosing instead to channel his experiences into poetic, cryptic lyrics and soaring, poignant songwriting.
